Crickhowell Open Studios
Supporting artists across the region, the Crickhowell Open Studios Weekend showcases the talent and creative lives of the artists who live and work in the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains.
In 2022 the late May Bank Holiday will move to June 2 to make it a four-day weekend running from Thursday, June 2, to Sunday, June 5 to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The hope is that it will not only be a festive occasion for the area, but also a celebration of art, which has brought solace to so many people of all ages during the Pandemic.

Crickhowell Literary Festival
Crickhowell is a picturesque and proudly independent town nestled into the southeast edge of the Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The town takes its name from the iron age fort that stood on top of the famous Crug Hywel, also known as Table Mountain.
As well as providing the perfect location from which to explore the Brecon Beacons, Crickhowell is noted for its 17th century stone bridge across the River Usk, which is the longest of its type in Wales.
The local area has many literary connections and a host of well known local authors living in and close to the town. It is widely believed that J.R.R. Tolkien based Crickhollow on Crickhowell whilst staying at nearby Buckland Hall. To find out more visit https://cricklitfest.co.uk/
Astro Camp
Cwmdu is now acclaimed, nationwide, for its “dark skies”, which is the perfect place to erect a telescope and view the night sky at its bi-annual (Astro Camp) astronomy schedule.
The Baker Street Irregular Astronomers are now old friends and regularly host stargazing events at the campsite. Astro camp has been ever-popular, and an incredible way to meet new people and astronomers, whilst learning about the skies above us.
